I wanted to share about the combo of the Acoustic Technologies single driver speaker driven by the Cary Xciter integrated amp. This combination is an incredible marriage. Amazing depth and large soundstage with great delicacy, even at 85-90 db volume levels. It is also not particular to the type of music. I have listened to classical (symphony for the Common Man and Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue), jazz (Hugh Masekela Revival and Hope), and rock and roll of various kinds. All of it was reproduced with authority and amazing sweetness-yet not overly so in that direction. The astonishing part is the imaging-anywhere you go in the room it remains solid and centered. The beauty of this system is that you just want to listen to music over and over-there is no fatigue. This combo is a must try for those looking for a high-end system on a budget. Â
Here is the system:  Speakers: Acoustic Technologies Single Driver Speakers (95db efficient)      Integrated Amp: Cary Xciter (with KT 88 tubes, the stock 6L6 are good but KT88 give up 8W Class A)    Sources:  Cary Xciter DAC and the Heed Obelisk DA and DT  Speaker Interface: MIT AVT 3   Interconnects:  Acoustic Zen WOW
Room Size:Â Â 14′ x 14′, This system would be good up to 14′ x 16′.

San Francisco Field Trip
On Feb. 19 eight of us made the rainy trip to SF to the famous (infamous) Haight Street and Ameoba Music. I think everyone found most of what they were looking for and I know I blew by my budget. Hey, when CD’s and  records are $4 you’re willing to see if you like it or not. To their credit, none of us ever saw a CD, DVD, or record (esp. used) that had any major scratches or defects. In fact the worst were tiny surface scratches. Very impressive. Prices were cheaper than on the internet in most cases, used stuff was in the $4-$9 range.
We also walked a few wet blocks down to Recycled Records also on the Haight. Prices were a bit higher on some stuff, but classical was a steal at a $1. Had lunch at a little Mexican restaurant on the South corner of Haight and who remembers (I don’t-its 3 blocks from the Ameoba), and the food was reasonable and good.
Would be fun to do this again but with better weather. There is a lot to do just in that area besides record shops, also people watching is extremely interesting there.
